This Saturday is the launch of the GeePee Kids Special, which is just a cool deal that allows all kids under 18 to travel for free on the Joburg City Sightseeing bus, when accompanied by any full-paying adult.
On S
aturday at 10.30am, there will be a bus loaded with kids and parents (and some well-known parents) for a sightseeing tour leaving from Gold Reef City. The Red City Tour visits stops such as Gandhi Square, the Roof of Africa at the Carlton Centre, the James Hall Transport Museum, the Apartheid Museum, Gold Reef City, the Mining District, the World of Beer, Newtown Precinct, the Origins Centre, Wits Campus, Braamfontein and Constitution Hill.
The bus is usually a hop-on, hop-off, which means you can get off at any time at one of the designated stops, and then get back on when you're ready. This Saturday, because it's a special event, we will just be driving through.
Each bus also has onboard commentary about the story and sites of Joburg, available in 10 languages, and a special kids' commentary.
I'll be going for my first time with my toddler on Saturday so I can't speak firsthand about what it's like. I have read a lot of good reviews and followed the tweets when the bus was launched, and it seems like loads of fun. Interesting, one of my most trusted references,
Tripadvisor, rates it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Tours run 7 days a week 9am to 5pm, with the first bus departing Gold Reef City at 10h05. Tickets for the tour cost R150 for adults and R70 for kids whilst children under 5 are free.
